Open an enquiry

A propulsion shaft line, a propeller, a machinery or piping system, or a single-machine analysis. State the vessel, what the machinery is doing, what is already known, and the decision that has to be made. An initial technical response is issued within two working days.

What work does Advik Protofab undertake?

Advik Protofab is a specialised engineering services company for marine propulsion shafting, treating the main engine, shafting, bearings and propeller as one system. Four services are offered. Propulsion shafting analysis, covering engine and propeller matching, alignment, bearing lubrication, vibration and bearing duty, supported by in-house tools for the shaft-line model and for propeller geometry and offsets. Design, integration and upgrading of shipboard machinery and the piping systems that serve it. Customised design or analysis directed at a single machine or a defined engineering question. And the development of digital engineering tools: simulation software, measurement and data systems, and machine learning where it improves on a conventional method. Shafting analysis is the lead service; the others are undertaken independently or alongside it.

Will a classification society accept the calculation as submitted?

The study is an engineering calculation prepared for the yard, the owner and the superintendent. It is lodged by the party the classification society recognises for the vessel, and the report is written so that party can present, defend and reproduce the model, the cases calculated and the open items. We stay with it through the review: the society’s or the administration’s questions on our work are answered by us, and any further cases they ask for are run, until those questions are closed.

What data is required from the vessel?

For a shafting study: a shafting arrangement drawing or identified sister-vessel particulars, bearing positions, lengths, clearances and materials, propeller and engine data, hull deflections where they exist, and any jacking, gap and sag or wear-down record. For machinery and piping work: machinery arrangement, piping diagrams, manufacturer data and the operating profile. Data that is missing is listed, together with its effect on the result. It is not replaced with an undeclared assumption.

Can machinery and piping work include the shaft line?

It can. State the interest in the first enquiry and the proposal will treat them together; they are kept separate where only the piping scope is required.

Can a customised engagement cover a single machine?

Yes. A pump, a refrigeration plant, a compressor, a diesel generator, a heat exchanger, or a single defined question is a customised design or analysis. It begins from that machine, its duty and the available evidence, and the report states what the calculation establishes and what it does not.

How does an engagement proceed after the first reply?

Enquiry, data review, a written scope and proposal, model build and client confirmation, calculation, reporting, and a technical review at close-out. Each stage and what it requires is set out on the engagement page.

How is confidential information handled?

Documents supplied remain the property of the client and are treated as confidential. A non-disclosure agreement can be put in place before any technical document is exchanged. Reports and engineering conclusions issued under an engagement are the client's to use; the calculation models and methods remain the property of Advik Protofab.
